A Historic Edition of Univision’s “Premios Juventud” 

(Youth Awards) held last night, brought Fans and Stars Together to Celebrate Latin Music, Culture and Everyday Heroes

 

The Memorable Opening Performance featured a Powerful Message of Love, Justice and Inclusion by The Wailers, Cedella and Skip Marley, Rauw Alejandro, Camilo, Pedro Capó, Farruko and Kany García 
 
Ally Brooke, Greeicy, Natti Natasha and Danna Paola Celebrated the Music and Legacy of Selena Quintanilla

MIAMI - August 13th, 2020 - Univision’s highly anticipated “Premios Juventud” (Youth Awards) united fans and stars through the power of music in the first live music award show during the pandemic. During the historic four-hour celebration, Latin music hottest stars and emerging artists performed in front of a virtual audience and honored everyday heroes. “Premios Juventud” broadcasted live from Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and featured a diverse group of hosts, Julissa Calderon, Ana Patricia Gámez, Francisca Lachapel, Borja Voces and Sebastián Yatra for the main show and Migbelis Castellanos, Jomari Goyso and Amara la Negra for “PJ Takeover,” the one-hour pre-show.
 
The legendary band The Wailers opened the show with an original PJ only version of their new song “One World, One Prayer,” featuring Cedella and Skip Marley (daughter and grandson of the legendary Bob Marley), Rauw Alejandro, Camilo, Pedro Capó, Farruko and Kany García. Global superstar Pitbull followed the powerful number with his uplifting anthem “I Believe that We Will Win.” 
 
A moving performance celebrating the 25-year legacy and music of Selena Quintanilla took place on stage by the talented Ally Brooke, Greeicy, Natti Natasha and Danna Paola, who performed Selena’s popular cumbias “Como la Flor,” “La Carcacha,” “Techno Cumbia,” “Baila Esta Cumbia,” “Amor Prohibido” and “Fotos y Recuerdos.” Producer and composer AB Quintanilla, brother of the late star, received two awards honoring her musical legacy. One of the most awaited moments of the night included the TV premiere of this summer’s hits “Algo Mágico” and “Tattoo Remix” by the talented young artists Rauw Alejandro and Camilo. Camilo also performed his single “Favorito” for the first time in television. The night ended with an upbeat musical number by Kyen? Es?, the mysterious singer honored the iconic Celia Cruz performing her songs “La Vida es un Carnaval,” “La Negra Tiene Tumbao” and “Rie y LLora.”
 
Continuing with its tradition of honoring artists using their star power for positive change and remarkable individuals making an impact in their community, “Premios Juventud” bestowed the “Agent of Change” award to Latin stars Becky G for her active role leading social change, Ricky Martin, for his activism and renowned efforts through the Ricky Martin Foundation, and Pitbull for his work in support of the community through financial grants to Latino small businesses around the country and the SLAM! Schools. Through a virtual appearance, Becky G and Ricky Martin received their award on PJ’s stage. The young people who were also honored with the prestigious award were Andrea Ronquillo; Kimberly Guerra and Gaby Cintron, Vinita Akula and Kevin Dick.
 
The first live award show during this pandemic also featured memorable music performances featuring renown artists and rising stars. The top moments of the night included

  • Cristian Castro – The popular singer performed for the very first time on TV his new song “Cuando Vuelve la Vida,” and a medley of a reimagined version of his classic romantic songs “Por Amarte Así,” “Lloviendo Estrellas” and “Azul.” 

  • Karol G – The top female winner of the night performed her latest single “Ay Dios Mío.” 

  • Farruko – The popular reggaeton singer performed “La Tóxica,” for the first time on TV.

  • Sebastián Yatra, Cali y el Dandee and Danna Paola – In a memorable number that fired up the virtual audience and fans at home, Sebastián Yatra, one of the hosts of the night, took the stage to perform “Locura” with Cali y el Dandee and “No Bailes Sola” with Danna Paola.

  • CNCO – The fan-favorite band delighted fans across the country with the TV premiere of their single “Honey Boo.”

  • Ozuna – The fan-favorite star performed his new songs “Caramelo” and “Mamacita.”

  • Natti Natasha – Premiered on TV her hit “Que Mal Te Fue.”

  • Grupo Firme – The regional Mexican band took the stage with their hit song “El Amor No Fue Pa Mi.” 

  • Mau y Ricky – The duo performed their song “Papás” for the first time on TV.

  • Anuel AA – The popular reggaeton star premiered on TV three of his recent songs, “Narcos,” “Hasta Que Dios Diga” and “Reggaetonera” 

  • Rafa Pabón – The reggaeton singer performed “Sin Aire” and “Mirala” for the first time on TV.

  • Manuel Turizo – The performance of his latest single “Quiéreme Mientras Se Pueda,” was a TV premiere.      

  • Llane – The Latin sensation returned to “Premios Juventud,” now as a solo artist, to perform his new bolero “Como Antes.”

  • Natanael Cano – Performed on Television for the first time his singles "Amor Tumbado," "Soy El Diablo" and "Arriba."

  • Jhay Cortez – The young star premiered on TV his singles “Como Se Siente Dime a Ve” and “Medusa."   

 

The globally acclaimed Bad Bunny was the biggest winner of the night taking home 8 awards, including “the Quarentune” for his hit “En Casita,” “OMG Collaboration” for “Soy el Diablo” and “Can’t Get Enough,” for the most popular artist on social media. Latin superstars Karol G and J Balvin received 5 awards each, including a shared one for their song “China” that won “The Traffic Jam” award. Latin music sensation Anuel AA won 4 awards and Natanael Cano and Daddy Yankee 3 each.

El muy esperado “Premios Juventud” de Univision unió a través del poder de la música a los fans y las estrellas en el primer programa de premiación en vivo durante la pandemia. En la histórica celebración de cuatro horas, las más populares estrellas de la música latina se presentaron ante una audiencia virtual y rindieron homenaje a los héroes de nuestra comunidad. “Premios Juventud” se trasmitió en vivo desde Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino con un diverso grupo de conductores, Julissa Calderón, Ana Patricia Gámez, Francisca Lachapel, Borja Voces y Sebastián Yatra para el programa principal, y Migbelis Castellanos, Jomari Goyso y Amara la Negra para “PJ Takeover”, el programa de antesala de una hora.


El legendario grupo The Wailers inició el show con una versión original para PJ de su nueva canción “One World, One Prayer”, con Cedella y Skip Marley (hija y nieto del legendario Bob Marley), Rauw Alejandro, Camilo, Pedro Capó, Farruko y Kany García. La superestrella latina Pitbull los siguió con un impactante número con su himno 

“I Believe that We Will Win”. 
 
Se presentaron en el escenario en una conmovedora actuación para celebrar el legado de 25 años y la música de Selena Quintanilla las talentosas Ally Brooke, Greeicy, Natti Natasha y Danna Paola, quienes entonaron las populares cumbias de Selena “Como la flor”, “La carcacha”, “Techno cumbia”, “Baila esta cumbia”, “Amor prohibido” y “Fotos y recuerdos”. El productor y compositor AB Quintanilla, hermano de la fallecida estrella, recibió dos premios en honor al legado y la música de la fallecida estrella. Uno de los momentos más esperados de la noche fue el estreno en televisión de los éxitos veraniegos “Algo Mágico” y “Tattoo Remix” por los talentosos artistas jóvenes Rauw Alejandro y Camilo. Camilo también presentó su single “Favorito” por primera vez en televisión. La noche terminó con un número musical alegre del misterioso cantante Kyen? Es?, quien homenajeó a la emblemática Celia Cruz al presentar sus canciones “La vida es un carnaval”, “La negra tiene tumbao” y “Ríe y llora”.
 
Para continuar con la tradición de rendir homenaje a artistas que usan su influencia como estrellas para propiciar cambios positivos y a personas destacadas que tienen un impacto positivo en su comunidad, “Premios Juventud” otorgó el premio “Agente de Cambio” a las estrellas latinas Becky G por su activo papel como líder de cambios sociales, Ricky Martin por su activismo y conocidos esfuerzos por medio de la Fundación Ricky Martin, y Pitbull por su labor de apoyo a la comunidad por medio de subvenciones a pequeñas empresas latinas en todo el país y las escuelas SLAM!. Becky G y Ricky Martin recibieron su premio en el escenario de PJ de manera virtual. Los jóvenes homenajeados con el prestigioso premio fueron Andrea Ronquillo; Kimberly Guerra y Gaby Cintrón, Vinita Akula y Kevin Dick.
 
El primer programa de premiación de la pandemia también ofreció memorables actos musicales con renombrados artistas y estrellas nuevas. Entre los momentos más destacados:

  • Cristian Castro – El popular cantante presentó su nueva canción “Cuando vuelve la vida” por primera vez en televisión, además de un popurrí con nuevas versiones de sus clásicas canciones románticas “Por amarte así”, “Lloviendo estrellas” y “Azul”.

  • Karol G – La artista femenina con más premios de la noche presentó su más reciente sencillo “Ay, Dios mío” por primera vez en televisión.

  • Farruko – El popular reggaetonero cantó por primera vez en televisión su canción “La tóxica”.

  • Sebastián Yatra, Cali y el Dandee y Danna Paola – En un número memorable que animó mucho a la audiencia virtual y a los fans en casa, Sebastián Yatra, uno de los conductores de la velada, presentó desde el escenario “Locura” con Cali y el Dandee, y “No bailes sola” con Danna Paola. 

  • CNCO – El popular grupo, un favorito de los fans, los deleitó en todo el país con el estreno en televisión de su sencillo “Honey Boo”.

  • Ozuna – El popular cantante cantó sus nuevas canciones “Caramelo” y “Mamacita”.

  • Natti Natasha – La interprete presentó por primera vez en televisión su canción “Que mal te fue”.

  • Grupo Firme – El grupo regional mexicano tomo el escenario con “El amor no fue pa mi”.

  • Mau y Ricky – Por primera vez en televisión, el popular duo cantó su último éxito “Papás”.

  • Anuel AA – La estrella del reggaetón debutó tres de sus nuevas canciones en televisión “Narcos,” “Hasta Que Dios Diga” y “Reggaetonera”.

  • Rafa Pabón – El cantante de reggaeton presentó sus canciones “Sin aire” y “Mirala” por primera vez en la televisión.

  • Manuel Turizo – La presentación de su sencillo “Quiéreme mientras se pueda” fue un debut en televisión. 

  • Llane – La sensación latina volvió a “Premios Juventud”, esta vez como solista, para interpretar su nuevo bolero, “Como Antes”.

  • Natanael Cano – Presentó por primera vez en televisión sus sencillos “Amor Tumbado”, “Soy el diablo” y “Arriba”.

  • Jhay Cortez – La popular estrella joven presentó por primera vez en televisión sus canciones “Como se siente a ve”y “Medusa”.

 

Bad Bunny, artista reconocido mundialmente, fue el más premiado de la noche con 8 galardones, entre ellos, “el Cuarentema” por su éxito “En casita”, “Colaboración OMG” por “Soy el diablo” y “Quiero Más” por ser el artista más popular en redes sociales. Las superestrellas latinas Karol G y J Balvin recibieron 5 premios cada una, entre ellos uno que compartieron por su canción “China”, que ganó el premio “El Traffic Jam”. La sensación de la música latina Anuel AA ganó 4 premios, y Natanael Cano y Daddy Yankee ganaron 3 cada uno.
