Entertainment Industry Speaker Series "Pilot" 

Northwest Indiana filmmakers and creatives gathered at the Munster, Indiana Public Library for a very special event, marking the momentous debut of an “Entertainment” focused speaker series in the region.

 

The Northwest Indiana Hub of the Indiana Filmmakers Network INC, 501c3 non-profit statewide organization hosted the “Entertainment INdustry Speaker Series” on April 13th from 11:30am – 3:30pm at the Munster Public Library.

IFN NWI Co- Hub Leaders and Special Event Committee hosted the celebration of TV/Film from Northwest Indiana talent Featured speakers, Amanda J. Alasauskas associate attorney at Chicago firm Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP,  and Oscar nominated Filmmaker Phillip J. McLaughlin.

 

During the event Amanda discussed - Copyright fundamentals: what is a copyright, how to register, who owns a copyright to a work, transfer of rights, and an overview of enforcement and fair use services.

Meanwhile, Filmmaker, Phillip J. McLaughlin, Northwest Indiana native and an Indiana University Bloomington graduate focused on - Navigating the industry: Insight and First-hand experience working as a Director/Editor on Hollywood studio Tv/Film sets & His directorial debut short horror film 'Toad Boy'.

 

As an editor he’s worked on high-profile series for networks such as Netflix, AMC, Hulu, CBS, Adult Swim, and Freeform. Phil also discussed his current Oscar nomination for his participation as Co-Producer for the short film "Red, White and Blue."

The film written and directed by actress and screenwriter Nazrin Choudhury follows Rachel, played by Brittany Snow, a single mother of two children and waitress living paycheck to paycheck, finds herself crossing stateliness from Arkansas into Illinois for an abortion.

In Phil’s presentation, he mentioned that the film was written by the director in response to the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Row vs. Wade”.

The first ever speaker series event was free, open to the public, granting attendees the opportunity to ask questions after each speaker presentation and network with other creatives while treated to light refreshments, giveaways and free raffles provided by PNW, Indiana Tech, CareSource and AMC Schererville 12 Theaters among others.

The Speaker Series event considered the “Pilot” as the IFN NWI organization hopes to continue showcasing entertainment professionals in the field of music, movies, tv and more in an effort to encourage filmmaking/tv production and to promote local, state and national talent in the region.

The IFN NWI hub is working on future entertainment projects such as Industry focused workshops, film screenings and much more.

 

IFN Statewide and Northwest Indiana Hub are consistently looking for collaborators to assist in increasing visibility in TV/Film production in Northwest Indiana and encourage businesses and local organizations to partner in various capacities.

Additional guests included Nathan Bechtold, IFN State President and Eve Gomez of Nuestra Comunidad NWI WLTH Radio served as emcee.
